24/4/10
Coundon Court v Massey Ferguson (H)
In their final league match together before Cian, Ben C and Daniel depart for the Coventry City Academy the boys put together a first half display which showed just why they've been the top under 8 team in Coventry this season. With Andre producing a great finish early on and then Ben C quickly scoring another with a fine volley it was all Coundon. Daniel then scored a spectacular long range goal and before half time Andre added another, his second of the match, after a great bit of skill and neat finish.
The Massey team were stung into action after the break but Cian added to his record breaking season. Well done to all the boys finishing the season on a high with a great performance against an excellent Massey team.
Man of the Match - Andre
17/4/10
Coundon Court v Christ the King (A)
Despite lots of pressure, a plethora of corners (17 Coundon corners against one for CTK ) and several goalmouth scrambles the boys struggled to get the ball into the net against a well organised and determined Christ the King team.
The deadlock was broken when a second half shot from a tight angle by Ben C squeezed in between the Christ the King 'keeper and the near post. Shortly after this a skilful turn from Ben H in the opposition box drew a foul with Will powerfully converting the penalty kick.
A good performance from all the boys against a very good Christ the King team who never stopped trying and defended their goal well.
Man of the Match - Will
10/4/10
Coundon Court v Brinklow Juniors (H)
A very good game with us having the best chances early on but failing to put them away. As the game went on Brinklow became stronger looking especially dangerous from set plays. There were some fine saves from both goalkeepers. A good performance from all the Coundon boys against an excellent Brinklow team.
Well done to Cian and the defensive trio of Will, Joe and Evan for keeping another clean sheet.
Man of the match - Ben Cook for his excellent work rate, silky skills and teamwork.
27/3/10
Coundon Court v Leamington Brakes (H)
A good game against a strong Brakes team that have really improved this season. Coundon started well and moments of good individual skill from the boys created several chances. The deadlock was broken when Daniel controlled a long kick from the excellent Brakes goalkeeper to hit a superb dipping shot over the goalies head into the back of the net.
From then on Coundon always seemed to be in control but as the game continued the boys struggled to break down a stubborn Brakes defence and almost paid the penalty near the end as a shot from a Leamington player seemed to be dipping in under the crossbar only for Rian to spring up and with both hands push it on to the crossbar which Joe then cleared (PHEW!)
A tight game in which our boys played well showing some good individual skills however they all need to learn that to score more goals against the best teams, they need to start passing the ball more often and more quickly. Too many times our players hung on to the ball and became surrounded by the opposition. Lets move that ball quickly guys!
I thought Will and Ben Hn did this the best on Saturday and at times made the game look easy by playing simple two touch football, it was a close call between these two but Ben H got the vote for Man of the Match.
Well done to Cian who has set the club record for the most clean sheets in a season and well done to the defensive trio of Will, Evan and Joe for helping him to the record.
Man of the Match - Ben H
20/3/10
Coundon Court v Pro Santos (A)
Despite continuaing their recent habit of starting slowly and conceding a goal in the first few minutes the boys were soon on top and dominated the match from then on. There were goals from Brook, Oliver (2) and Ben C in the first half and Brook might have had a second had the half time whistle not blown while his goalbound shot was in the air.
There were further goals from Daniel and two superb long range efforts from Ben C in the second half. New boy Zachary slotted in well, as changes in the second half saw all the players getting the chance to experience new positions. The match ended with the usual defensive pairing of Joe and Will up front, striker Oliver playing in central defence, and goalkeeper Cian in midfield.
12/12/09
Coundon Court v Leamington Brakes (A)
Game 12 for the Lions was at Leamington Brakes.
The boys gradually took control in boggy conditions against a spirited Brakes side and by the time the 1st half ended Oliver had bagged himself 2 goals. Oliver went on to hit the back of the net twice more in the second half while Daniel also found the net from distance. Cian in goal played his part making several fine saves but on the whole this was another dominant performance from all the boys.
Man of the Match - Oliver - Never gave Brakes a moments peace and hit 4 terrific goals.
5/12/09
Coundon Court v Pro Santos (H)
Game 11 of the season was expected to be another hard test as the lions hosted Pro Santos.
After a delayed kick off the boys quickly found they had a real challenge on as Pro Santos began strongly. The lions looked a little sluggish early on and were struggling to find any rhythm to their play on a heavy pitch.
The visitors were certainly giving the boys something to think about but Cian and all the boys were defending well. As the half went on Coundon began to edge the play but a combination of good goalkeeping and defending snuffed out any threat and the half time whistle went to end an even 1st half.
The boys were asked at half time to try to pass the ball a little quicker on the heavy pitch and the response was good. All of a sudden the boys were a different team and found the net when half time arrival Daniel skipped past his marker and produced a classy finish. Now the lions were roaring again and were soon rewarded with another goal again from Daniel. With their confidence restored the boys looked comfortable despite Pro Santos playing some terrific football. One final highlight was a fantastic save from Cian as a thunderous free kick looked goalbound as the Cat had yet another good day at the office.
Another good performance in the end from the boys after a slow start. Even when they are not at their best they come good eventually which shows the character they all have. Credit to Pro Santos who are a talented side and really tested the lions today.
Man of the Match - Daniel - Came on at half time, scored two goals and lifted the team.
28/11/09
Coundon Court v Leamington Hibs (A)
The boys were off on their travels again as they looked to continue their impressive sequence of victories. This time a very hard test was expected against our old friends at Leamington Hibs. The game kicked off in cold, wet conditions and the lions found themselves on the back foot early on. Leamington Hibs immediately showed the watching parents why they have been doing so well as they dominated the early exchanges with some quality football.
It was no surprise when Hibs scored and the lions found themselves in unfamiliar territory. The rearguard of Cian, Joe and Will were being tested but were defending well and with Ben C and Brook starting to work their magic on the wings Coundon seemed to have weathered the storm. Daniel and Olly were starting to ask real questions of the Hibs defence as the lions were stung into action.
The boys responded with a quality goal as Ben C fired home at the back post after a superb cross. Now the boys were a different proposition and Oliver found the net from close range.
Half time arrived after a cracking first period.
Into the second half and with Evan, Andre and Ben H on now the lions were looking in control. With Daniel in dominant form down the middle he scored courtesy of his fine finish. The game continued at pace with both sides going toe to toe in a great advert for U8's football. We were seeing some terrific performances around the pitch from the boys with Joe, Ben H and Andre especially catching the eye with fine displays.
Daniel scored again with a trademark top corner finish. Hibs though immediately replied and another attack from Hibs saw a wonderful finish.
The final goal saw Brook's fine cross deflected in by a defender. A slow start today from the boys not helped by a rushed warm up. However once the boys weathered the early storm they were very good against a very good side.
Man of the Match - Joe - Always in the right place at the right time and starting to show more confidence on the ball.
21/11/09
Coundon Court v Athletic United (A)
On a cold, damp morning the boys went away to Athletic Utd. After a slow start the boys gradually started to find their stride. Athletic however were showing stubborn resistance and looked in no mood to make things easy. With some of the boys again playing in different positions the lions finally began to open up the Athletic defence but were frustrated by some fine last ditch defending. Finally however Oliver and Brook found the back of the net in quick succession.
The boys lifted their game in the second half and in miserable conditions produced some quality football. The ever reliable Daniel coolly slotted home to cap a fine game while Evan also fired home to continue his good form. Brook and Oliver both added their second goals to cap fine displays but the highlight of the game was reserved till the end. Cian and Oliver swapped positions for the final 10 minutes as Cian the only one the boys without a goal to date looked to put the record straight. After clever footwork and a fine left footed drive Cian came so close to scoring and as the minutes ticked down it looked like his chance had gone. Then the lions won a corner in the dying minutes. The ball was floated over and Cian acrobatically produced an overhead kick to rival any top striker and the ball flew into the net past the startled keeper. A golden moment for everybody watching and one which will always be remembered by all. Well done "Cat".
Ben C, Ben H, Will, Joe and Andre missed out on the scoring today but all played their part in another impressive performance.
Man of the Match - Daniel - Scored a fine goal, created chances for others and always in the action.
14/11/09
Coundon Court v Coventry Sphinx (H)
Game 8 of the season and the boys hosted Cov Sphinx. Another new challenge for the boys against a club who always produce good teams.
With the early exchanges even the lions knew they were in for a hard game against a
talented Sphinx side. The Sphinx boys were growing in confidence as the half wore
on but with Cian the "Cat" in goal in commanding form it was going to take something
special to breach the Coundon goal. In front of Cian, Joe and Evan were in control of
the defence and looked in great form. Coundon began to get into their stride and with
the two Ben's on the wings pushing Sphinx back the boys were looking good. Olly and
Daniel were also showing some wonderful touches but with the Sphinx keeper having a
terrific game the score sheet was still blank. On came the formidable pairing of Will and
Brook as the lions tried everything to break the Sphinx resolve. With the half drawing
to a close Daniel's superb free kick from just inside the Sphinx half found the net and
the half ended on a high for the boys.
The second half began in wonderful fashion for the lions as Brook took the initiative from
the kick off and left defenders trailing in his wake before smashing home an unstoppable
shot. Coundon went into top gear for the remainder of the game and 3 more goals were
added in another impressive display. Oliver capped a wonderful display with a goal while
Ben H also netted a deserved goal after unselfish work from Oliver. Joe also found the
net after another stint up front.
Another good performance today from the lions on a cold, wet morning. Sphinx gave the boys a very good test but once the boys went into 2nd half overdrive they were excellent.
Man of the Match - Oliver The talent has never been in question but we are now seeing Oliver's all round game flourish. Not only did he score and play well but put a goal on a plate for a team mate when he could have scored himself.
7/11/09
Coundon Court v Binley Woods (A)
Game 7 of the season saw the boys taking a trip to the home of Binley Woods.
Could the boys carry on their impressive run against a new opponent?
In the opening period of the game the Lions were looking lively and started to take control
of the early exchanges. Binley however did threaten Cian's goal on a couple of occasions
early on but found Cian in outstanding form. Coundon however were in formidable form and
Oliver opened the scoring as the Lions began to roar.
For the remainder of the game we were treated to another wonderful display of football as
the goals rained in. Andre bagged himself another hat-trick as he continued his good form
while Ben C also found the net 3 times with his 3rd goal a cracker. Brook also continued his impressive start to the season with 2 goals and Daniel also scored twice with his second the goal of the game. Oliver also netted twice in another fine display while Ben H also found the net to cap a good performance.
Joe was yet another player in good form and Cian made a number of important saves early on.
The only player not yet mentioned is Evan. Today was quite simply Evan's best game to date in a Coundon shirt as he completely dominated the holding midfield role he was given. Showing great control, passing and skill he was at the heart of everything and capped his day off with a brilliant goal.
Today the Lions were again in unstoppable form and put on a high quality display. The team play and movement was a joy to watch and we saw some top drawer goals. Many of the boys again played in different positions but all did well and can be very proud of themselves today.
Finally full credit to Binley Woods who although missing some key players to academy football never dropped their heads and played some very good football.
Man of the Match - Evan - Top class today!!
17/10/09
Coundon Court v Athletic United (H)
Game 6 of the season saw the visit of Athletic Utd as the boys looked to continue their winning ways. Right from the first whistle the boys looked in dominant mood as they pushed their opponents back.
Playing with terrific style the goals arrived as the Lions brand of total football returned today with a vengeance. Andre bagged himself a well deserved hat-trick showing great finishing and good team play into the bargain. Ben C continued his rich vein of form with 2 more goals and also supplied some wonderful crosses for his team. Brook played in two positions and gave another assured performance while reminding us of his talent with a magnificent goal.
Oliver was another in majestic form again playing in two positions and bagging a goal. Ben H was another who shone with some wonderful link up play and some terrific runs. Daniel gave another quality performance running the midfield and also getting on the scoresheet. Will was also in terrific form and was again at the foundation of everything with a very dominant game.
Evan was also at his reliable best in two positions and was another to find the net. Joe was another to move positions and gave a good performance looking comfortable on the ball. Finally Cian, another good performance from the Cat on what was a comfortable day for him.
A fine team effort today with all the boys making significant contributions in a powerful performance.
Man of the Match - Andre - Well done today Andre! Fine hat-trick and good all round display. Linked the play, worked hard and always in the box when it mattered.
10/10/09
Coundon Court v Brinklow (H)
Game 5 of the season saw the visit of a very good Brinklow side. Like Coundon the Brinklow
boys had been very successful of late and a high quality game was in prospect.
The 1st half kicked off and as expected the quality on show from both sides was good. The game
flowed from end to end as for once Coundon were definitely not having things all their own way. The
four pronged Coundon attack of Ben C, Brook, Daniel and Oliver were all beginning to ask serious
questions of the Brinklow defence but some fine defending and goalkeeping kept the scores level.
At the other end Brinklow were also testing the Coundon rearguard but when the formidable duo of
Will and Evan were passed they were finding Cian in goal in commanding form.
Joe, Ben H and Andre
were thrown into the action as the lively pace of the game continued. Then with the minutes ticking away
in the 1st half the Lions scored as Oliver scrambled the ball home after pouncing on a mistake.
Certainly not his best finish ever but one of his most important all the same. The 1st half ended after what had been a great advert for U8,s football.
Into the second half and more changes were made. Coundon
found themselves on the back foot as the half settled down but Brinklow could still not find a way
past Cian. Coundon were still creating chances and Ben H produced a wonderful defence splitting
pass to almost give the Lions number 2. At times in this half it was all hands to the pump for the boys
but all the boys were battling hard and on a few occasions could have wrapped things up with better
decisions on the ball. But try though Brinklow might it was not to be for them today.
Not vintage Lions today. Full credit to Brinklow
who were a very good side but well done
again to the Coundon boys.
Some fine performances today but special mention to Andre, Joe and Ben H who all came on and made telling contributions for their team.
Man of the Match - Shared - Oliver - Vital goal, always a threat and again great team play. Cian - After a quiet few weeks reminded us all why he is so highly rated with a great display of keeping.
3/10/09
Coundon Court v Firefighters (H)
The boys went into game 4 of the season at home to Firefighters.
The 1st half started with Coundon on top as their speed, movement and skill was again a joy to watch. For 10 minutes the boys were frustrated as the Firefighters keeper pulled off some terrific saves but then the goals came. Will with a penalty, Ben C with a cracker, Ben H with a cool finish after a brilliant team move and Andre with two fine finishes.
Changes were made but the pattern in the second half remained the same and more goals followed. Daniel had a fine half rattling in 4 goals as his clever footwork was too much for the defence, while Brook continued his fine form with 2 more great finishes. Evan produced a cool finish to score his 1st of the season after another glorious team move.
Spare a thought for a gallant Firefighters side who played the game the right way and never dropped their heads in what was a very difficult challenge for them. All the boys played their part today, Joe and Oliver were unfortunate not to join their team mates on the scoresheet but both had impressive games while Cian in goal had a quiet day.
Again some of the boys moved around into different positions all showing wonderful attitude and ability.
Man of the Match - Shared between Daniel and Oliver. Daniel - Played a half, scored 4 goals and caused havoc in a fine performance. Oliver - Behind everything in a wonderful, unselfish 1st half display. Oliver is now showing us all what a terrific team player he is becoming.
26/09/09
Coundon Court v GNP Sports (H)
Today's visitors were GNP as the Coundon boys looked to continue their impressive run.
In bright sunshine the boys immediately took complete control of the game, playing some wonderful football. The GNP boys could do nothing to stop Coundon in an opening 10 minutes which saw the home side put 5 goals past their shell shocked opponents. It is debatable whether anyone could have lived with the boys at this stage as the young Lions played their own brand of "total football".
The pack was re-shuffled and changes were made showing everybody what a strong and versatile squad of boys they are. The remainder of the game followed the same pattern as the Coundon boys entertained the crowd with a further 7 goals.
Oliver, Ben C and Brook all capped impressive games with hat-tricks while captain Will hit 2 "Will specials". A special mention to Joe who had another stint up front and at last scored his first goal for the club with a fine finish. Daniel produced another terrific performance always pulling the strings for the team and at the heart of many goals. Andre played unselfishly in 2 positions for the team and showed his versatility with some fine tackles and passes when taking a turn in defence. Ben H was another to impress showing great skill and a wonderful team ethic in his play. Evan continued his impressive start to the season with another fine display in defence and left wing while Cian in goal, a spectator for periods of the game was impeccable when called upon.
Well done to all 10 boys today. The GNP manager was very complimentary to our boys and he told his lads to not worry about today as they won't meet another side like that again. The manner in which the goals were created and scored was a joy to watch as we saw the team clicking like a well oiled machine.
Special credit to all the boys who played out of position today and the boys who played less than they would have liked.
Man of the Match - Ben C - A fine hat-trick, great work rate and created many chances for his team.
19/09/09
Coundon Court v Coventry Copsewood (A)
This time they were at Cov Copsewood on another sunny morning. After an even start the boys got into their stride and began to take the game to Copsewood. A deserved lead was taken as Ben C coolly slotted in at the back post after good work from Daniel. Brook then added another with a great finish and an own goal followed after more good work from Brook.
Copsewood responded with a deserved goal after several good efforts but Coundon went in at half time with a comfortable lead. The boys really stepped up a gear in the second half and we were treated to another six goals.
Brook netted 2 more including a long range screamer to complete a hat-trick. Andre got in on the act with 2 fine poachers goals showing great following up for one. Daniel scored a typical Daniel goal which had quality written all over it while Olly reminded us all of his talent with a second half brace showing great skill and balance in the process.
Some terrific performances today with goals from 5 different boys entertaining the proud, watching parents. We must also remember the 5 unsung heroes today who were just as vital in their contribution. Will, Joe and Evan were once again the defensive rock which allowed the rest of the team to flourish while Cian in goal made many vital saves again when called upon. Ben H never got the goal he deserved but again played well for the team and was always in the thick of the action.
To summarise this was a great team effort from all the boys again. Some wonderful individual goals but more importantly some wonderful team goals which shows the boys are learning quickly.
Man of the Match - Brook - Quality hat-trick, involved throughout and made the right decisions on the ball.
12/09/09
Coundon Court v Cov Jag (H)
The boys went into their first game of the season facing a Cov Jag side full of
talented boys and this would be a severe test.
The match kicked off in bright sunshine in front of a healthy crowd and Cov Jag took the early
initiative. With the Jag boys in full flow early on Coundon needed to be on their toes and didn't let anyone down. The brick wall that is Evan, Will and Cian was in no mood to be beaten and dealt with a number of raids brilliantly.
As the half went on the Coundon boys began to play as we know they can and with Daniel pulling the strings in the middle they began to create chances. Ben C and Brook on the wings were now really giving the Jag boys a hard time with their strong running and silky skills while Andre up front was a constant handful.
Then around the 15 minute mark Ben C found the net with a left foot cracker. This was no more than the boys deserved and was followed by number 2 shortly after from the ever reliable Daniel as he slotted home to round off a pulsating half of football.
With Joe now on up front and Ben H on the right the action continued. Again Cov Jag threw everything at Coundon.
On the rare occasions the formidable pairing of Will and Evan were beaten Cian came to the rescue to show everyone why he is becoming the best keeper around. On the right Ben H was now back to his best as he fought for everything and showed good skill on the ball. Joe who had been asked to play up front was also doing a valiant job for the team and was almost in dreamland but was just denied a goal with a last ditch tackle.
Goal number 3 though was to arrive shortly after, courtesy of Daniel as he skipped past defenders and coolly slotted home to cap a fine display. Andre and Brook returned for the last 10 minutes.
The final minutes ticked away and the boys continued on the attack for the most part until the ref finally ended a fantastic, high quality game of football. Full credit to our opponents who are a tremendous side .
We are now running out of superlatives for these boys but to break this record is a truly special feat. The boys take this record from the current U10's who have ruled mini soccer for their generation and are together with our current U9's a formidable act to follow.
But this group of boys are special too. What a fantastic way to start a season!!!
Man of the Match - Will - Captain fantastic today! He did exactly what was asked of him and more in a vital position for the team.
