8/05/10 - Coventry Saracens (H)
Hot on the heels of the previous game's man of the match display Mackenzie started where he left off, totally dominating the midfield. Making the tackles we all know he can make, we are now starting to see the runnning and passing game being added to this. The first goal came when instead of shooting Charlie fooled the away defence & passed to Zak who made no mistake with a clean finish. This came after after some great pressure, passing & numerous chances for the home team. This was turning into the best centre forward display of the season from Charlie. Half time came & despite all the pressure the game was still very tight. Then a break-away from Saracens & a robust challange inside the box resulted in a penalty to the away side.
The Coundon boy's were not ready to give the game up yet, & when the ball fell to Tommy in the box you knew there would only be one outcome. With a few injuries & several substitutions the little lions lost there way a bit. Special mention to Harry C, who again stepped up with great enthusiasm to fill the goal-keepers gloves. With great kicking, great initiative (to roll the ball short out to Zak), he looked like he'd played there all season.
Man of the match - Mackenzie, another great all action display.
24/04/10 - Cov Copsewood Green (H)
What a game between two of Coventry's brightest teams!
Coundon got off to a great start with Mackenzie holding the midfield area as though it was his alone. The boys passing inside then out then back in. Several chances followed with Charlie narrowly missing out along with chance for Nathan & also Tommy. Then came the oldest sucker punch in the book. An extremely long kick from the Copsewood keeper saw Coundon Court under the first real pressure of the game.
Whilst the first half was all Coundon , the second was all Copsewood. After giving so much in the first half 1 or 2 of the Coundon players were starting to tire & get pulled out of position.
Man of the Match - Mackenzie - who at 1 point ran the length of the field to make a tackle which stopped a certain shot on our goal. Keep it up!!
6/02/10 - Cov Copsewood Green (A)
Plenty of heart & fight from the boys this week. Every one of the players gave their all today and this week we saw the return of some of the best qualities our boys have displayed in the past: Including: Some great team defending. When Zak came off he was so out of breath he couldn't speak!
James showing his unstoppable determination never letting anyone past without a fight.....and then another fight & another.
Harry C great effort & tackling.
Harry S great determination & discipline.
Pele tracking back & taking the ball off the opposition players several times.
Lewis making save after save, showing what a good keeper he could be if he concentrates more!
Charlie again showing great vision with his passes & showing that he'll have a go at any position.
Sean challenging for every ball & giving the opposition defenders a tough afternoon.
With all that said, if we want to compete with the best teams we need to show all of these qualities every week & start having the confidence to pass to our team mates...quickly & accurately.
Man of the Match - Lewis - some fine saves both on the floor & in the air. Keep it up!
30/01/10 - Chapelfield Colts Blue (H)
Coundon Court started off really well, pegging the visitors back from the first kick. As has come to be our teams trademark now, lots of pressure but no goals. We need to get those passes or shots off that bit quicker & the goals will come. The second half saw Chapelfields physically bigger players dominate the game with our players tending to watch instead of getting stuck in. The message to the players this week must be, if you want to watch come and stand with me. If you want to play, get stuck in!
23/01/10 - Triumph (H)
Always nice to see our old foes Triumph. A great team performance with Charlie settling into midfield & Zak looking at home up front.
Mackenzie back to his barn-storming best. This game was marked out because the boys challenged for every ball. If it was close by, one of our boys made sure he would get it, then when they had it the boys always looked to play it to one of their mates.
A close first half was edged by the Lions. The game finished with Harry S & Zak getting a goal apiece.
Well done boys, a great team performance with any one from 4 players (Harry S, Harry C, Charlie or Mackenzie) making a claim for man of the match.... this is what we need every week!
12/12/09 - Whitley (H)
The boys played theIr last home game of 2009 and started on top pushing forward looking for the opening goal but after all the play in the Whitley half the boys found themselves behind as Whitleys first venture over the half way line ended with the ball in the back of the net.
This wasn't the boys best performance but they did play some good football with Tommy and Charlie linking well to create some good chances but Coundon just couldn't finish in front of goal. The boys did pull level with a very well taken goal from Charlie who took on the last defender and hit a great strike back across the goal into the back of the net and he scored again hitting a half volley past the Whitley keeper.
The second half was end to end with the lions having the better chances but Whitley also played well and converted some chances into goals.
An indifferent performance from the team today and we didn't always play as a "Team" at times today, but we all know that this season is a learning time for this team and today they learnt another good lesson.
Man of the Match - Charlie - Two very well taken goals and put in a good battling performance up front always looking to play a team mate into the game, his best performance of the season.
5/12/09 - Firefighters (A)
With a stand-in manager, no Mackenzie, a couple of players playing in positions for the first time, could the boys show what they are made of ? Well to begin with .........no! The little lions left their little hearts at home. As the half went on the little lions started to not so much roar as purrr.
With Pele starting to understand the centre forwards postion & challenging hard for every ball & Charlie tracking back well & covering Harry at the back. James as ever winning everything on the right, several corners followed which the Coundon boys just couldn't turn into goals the way their opposition had.
Half time came & the boys all agreed that they needed to do better. The effect was almost instant.
From the very first second Sean won the ball back for Coundon Court & we were on the attack. It was clear Firefighters were now going to have a game on their hands. After a belting finish from Zak & and another from Tommy the scores were level. With Harry S now tackling everything that came within smelling distance of him and Harry C showing real determination to do the same surely there could only be one outcome.
After some great determination from Pele, & Zak on the right, Harry S managed to squeeze a cross over to Charlie who, by no coincidence was in exactly the right place at the right time & netted superbly.
Man of the Match - the team for the great courage & determination to never give up. Special mention to Harry S who covered every balde of grass in the second half & James who again was at his determined best.
28/11/09 - Leamington Hibs Colts (A)
On a cold and windy morning the boys travelled to Leamington for their latest game but came away with very little to cheer about after a lacklustre performance. Once again they came up against some big lads that were always going to win the physical battle and we struggled to play football today. At times the determination and fight that have become a trademark of this young team wasn't any where to be seen.
It is games like today that we will learn from as a group and become a stronger team, but only if we listen and do what we talk about and work on in training.
The biggest lesson from today is "That you can not wait for it to happen YOU have to make it happen". See you all Thursday at training and remember "The harder we train the luckier we will become"...... ask your dads.
Man of the Match - Lewis who played well in goal making some good saves to keep the score down and James "the terrier" who just never gives in and always drives towards goal...well done both of you.
21/11/09 - Coventry Copsewood Green (H)
This was going to be a good test for the boys today as they welcomed a very good Copsewood side to Coundon Court School. After an indifferent run of games of late there were some questions being asked before the game......would the boys answer them or would the coaches still be wondering at the end of the game?
Straight from kick Copsewood dominated the play winning every 50/50 and if it wasn't for some wayward finishing and good keeping by stand-in keeper Harry C the boys could have found themselves behind early on, but it was as if every player decided to turn up around 10 minutes into the game as they started to compete and let Copsewood know that they would not have it all their own way.
With both sides now playing well it was a good game with Zak and McKenzie have a really good battle in the midfield and it was Coundon who took the lead as Zak passed to Tommy who beat his man and played an inch perfect pass to Charlie who showed good pace and a cool head to place his shot past the advancing keeper "Goal".
The second half was real end to end stuff with both sides never giving the other a second on the ball making for an entertaining 20 minutes of mini soccer. Copsewood had the better chances of the half and on the final whistle both teams got a fantastic cheer from everyone watching as they had both played their part in a good game.
Once again the young lions showed that they can compete with the best under 7s around and when we play a good footballing side we play our best too, I am sure as the seasons go on that both these team with be there or there abouts at the business end of the year.
Man of the Match - Harry C showed great team spirit by going in goal and did very well and came so close to a cleansheet.
14/11/09 - Christ the King (A)
The youngest club side were on their travels again this week and showed that they can play against older boys and at times outplay them. They scored through the on fire Tommy who scored for the third week running.
With changes made at half time the boys never really got going but as so many times this season they never gave in and kept trying to play right until the very end, but found that physically they cannot compete with some teams, football wise they can more than hold their own.
Man of the Match - James - A great performance and if games were won on effort James would have won this game on his own. Well done.
7/11/09 - Triumph (A)
For the second week running we were blessed with good weather for the lion cubs game, would we get the same display for the second week running from this great bunch of lads. The answer was "Yes".......straight from the off the boys went on the attack and played some great football, wave after wave of attacks from Coundon put the Triumph backline under pressure who were playing well to stop the lion cubs from scoring.
The goal did come and it was from TOMMY with a well taken shot from the left hand side of the area past the keeper and into the back of the net. A second soon followed as CHARLIE battled well to win the ball and then hit a shot .Triumph hit back with a great strike.
There was a first goal for the team from SEAN followed by one from the "action man" MCKENZIE.
Man of the Match - Pele - The birthday boy did everything but score on his special day , keep up the good work young man.
31/10/09 - Chapelfield Colts (H)
This was a big game for the lion cubs after some hard and disappointing performances the boys were challenged to go out and show the coaches and parents that they wanted to play for Coundon Court and that they were a team. The boys went out and put on a display that everyone that has watched them this season had been waiting for from this talented bunch of players. They went right back to basics holding their shape passing and moving and most of all listening. The boys were set on their way by an OG from an unlucky chaps defender. Charlie played well up front getting 2 and Pele also netting for Coundon before the break.
The second half was much the same as the first with Coundon playing really well and the goals kept coming with James getting 2, Harry S 1, Tommy hitting 2 crackers (we will forgot the one he missed in the first half) and Zak got 1 to round off the goals.
The Chaps player were a credit to their club and their manager, never giving up and showing a great team spirit and I am sure they will do well in the future.
Man of the Match - The Team - Every player showed today that they "DO" want to play for the lions and long may it continue.
17/10/09 - Christ the King (A)
The boys played their first local derby today against Christ The King and again put in a good display against bigger boys.
The Lion Cubs got off to a flying start with a wonder goal from the "action man" MCKENZIE who got the ball midway inside the Coundon half and took on the entire CTK team and coolly sidefooted the ball past the keeper, what a start!
The boys put some good passing moves together and did trouble the CTK goal on more than one occasion but just couldn't score as the half went on the boys found themselves defending more and more.
The second half was a mix of both good team work but some old habits crept back. After the game we agreed to play another game and for some reason the boys went out and played really, really well taking the lead scoring through Charlie and James.
Man of the Match - Pele - A fantastic display of skills from this talented young man and he also showed he CAN tackle, he entertained both sets of parents and coaches with his ability, well done Pele.
10/10/09 - Coventry Copsewood (A)
Another great morning for football greeted everyone as Coundon travelled to Copsewood to play one of the best footballing teams in this age group.
The game kicked off and it was really end to end stuff with both teams showing that they wanted to get the ball down and pass it about. Copsewood threatend the Coundon goal but the backline stood strong with Harry S making some good challenges and Charlie tipping a shot onto the post....off his knee.
Coundon scored with a well worked corner Pele layed the ball short to ZAK who turned his man and beat the keeper at his near post. The boys responded really well after last weeks game and went toe to toe with a very good Copeswood side.
With changes made at half time the game was still pretty even and it was a very good game, but as the half went on Copsewood's strength in depth showed.
All in all this was a very good allround team performance and once again showed that when we play good teams it brings the best out of our boys.
Man of the Match - Zak - Gets better and better with every game, covers a massive amount of ground and can play a bit too!!!!. Well done Zak
3/10/09 - Pro Santos (A)
A difficult game for our youngest boys, but we continue to show them the right way to play the game and leave other teams to make their own mistakes.
The boys tried really hard but were overmatched against a physically strong side. When Pro Santos took off their main players, the boys showed that they could match the oppositions play and got to half time feeling quite confident. However the return of the 4 players for the second half was just too much for our boys and with the game becoming no contest there seemed to be little to be gained for either side continuing.
The boys showed wonderful heart and never stopped trying and they were a credit to the club. Well done.
I will be watching with interest if and when the Pro Santos team come to play our actual U8 side.
Man of the match - The team
26/9/09 - Ambleside (A)
Thanks again to Ambleside for sorting out the game at late notice. The young lions were in good spirits before the game
The boys scored with a well taken goal by CHARLIE who latched onto a big goal kick from Harry beat the last man and slotted the ball away and to their credit the boys started to play and scored again with a wonderful freekick from MCKENZIE.
The second half was a full blooded affair with every player on the pitch getting stuck in and making some great tackles and I think "The Ref" did well to let the game flow.
Sean made some crunching tackle and Harry C showed some natural ability in goal making some good saves, it was real end to end stuff
Harry gave an almighty goal kick which bounced once and went past his opposite number which sparked a big pile on as the boys celebrated.
Man of the Match - Harry had a great game in goal but man of the match was - Mckenzie who never stopped running, scored a fantastic goal and did it all with a big smile.
19/9/09 - Westwood Boys (H)
The boys showed us this week what a great spirit they have and a fantastic attitude. With no regular keeper and players still getting used to their positions, some boys were asked to play in different position today and met the challenge head on with some wonderful results.
We are probably the only side in the league that are fielding all under 7s this season and today they showed us again that they are as good as anyone when they play football with some great passing all around the pitch but physically they will find it a little difficult as there are some big boys playing this season.
It was never going to be easy l but they were really battling well for every ball, and went close on a number of occasions.
The second half was uncannily like the first but once again they battled back and mounted some good attacks but just couldn't find the back of the net.
Another good performance with little reward for this great bunch of lads but they are improving at a rapid pace and it's only a matter of time before they get their just rewards.
Special mentions for Sean who played outstanding at the back today winning every challenge he made and with a smile. Harry C who did well out but played brilliantly in goal. Pele for showing that he can tackle and work hard and still entertain us with his silky skills.
12/9/09 - Brinklow (H)
The wonderful weather greeted everyone at Coundon Court today and it was perfect conditions for football. With Pinley dropping out of the league at the last minute, we thank Brinklow for stepping into this late fixture.
The first half was great to watch with both teams putting their all into the game and it was Coundon who settled best and were playing some good football using the wings really well.
Brinklow did mount the odd attack but Charlie made 2 saves but it was the visitors who scored on the counter attack this would now test the boys resolve and see if they had the battling quantities that all good teams need and they did not disappoint.
McKenzie had an outstanding game and never stopped working for his team mates and tracking down the ball and Zak was now running the game showing some wonderful vision and skill in the middle. All their hard work was rewarded with a great goal from our flying winger Tommy who finished off a great move beating the keeper .
Charlie took the ball out wide and beat the keeper across the goal but straight from the kick off Brinklow hit back this really hit the boys for six.
The boys kept trying to play but were crowded out as Brinklow hunted in packs for the ball 5 at a time.
Tommy got his second to get the boys back in the game with a sweet strike from his left boot a well deserved double for the little winger.
The boys played well again today and keep showing huge improvement each week but a few minutes of lost concentration was our downfall today .
Man of the Match - Special mention to McKenzie who played really well but man of the match goes to.......................................Zak who was outstanding today and is growing into his position and showing what a good player he is, well done skipper.
29/8/09 - Chapelfield Colts (H)
The under 7's played their second preseason game showing that they are improving with every display. They played 3 x 15 minute games and were in full control from start to finish playing some fantastic football passing the ball from one wing to the other and battling for every ball in the midfield.
Eevery player put 100% effort in today and got their reward. McKenzie kept a clean sheet and showed that he has a great future in goal and also played well in the middle of the pitch in the last game. Harry C got some good tackles in at the back and cleared the line well.
Harry S was fantastic again this week full of energy and great vision on the ball at the centre of everything. Zak put in a wonderful performance showing he can tackle but he is as his best with the ball at his feet and made some cracking passes and got a well deserved goal.
Charlie showed today what a great team player he is always looking for a team mate and played the wingers in well, his best performance to date. Tommy is growing into his position on the left skipping past his markers with ease and getting a goal for the second week running.
Pele went close to scoring and always looks good going forward a constant threat on the right wing. James played well up front and put in a gritty display on the wing showing he has some pace.
The boys did everything that we have worked on in training over the past couple of weeks and entertained everyone who was watching today the boys have come a long way in a short time....Well done boys!!!
