Coundon Court Under 6's played their first ever game, taking on Coventry Jaguar in an exciting clash this afternoon.

In a match consisting of two 15 minute periods and one 20 minute period, Coundon started with Archie in goal, Josh and Dom in defence, with Oisin, Rami and Asa across the middle and Thomas in attack. It was the visitors who started the brighter, forcing stand-in 'keeper Archie into a string of impressive saves. Understandably, the team were looking a little starstruck by the experience.

However, as the first period wore on, Coundon started to get a hold of the game and the introduction of Alex and Olivia added bite and endeavour to the display. Archie was still proving an equal match to whatever the visitors threw at him though, and he made a stunning save just before the end of the first period, brilliantly pushing away from a firmly struck shot from the edge of the box.

Further changes were made for the start of the second period, and Coundon looked far more assured. The players were keeping their positions a lot more, Rami and Asa were getting much more involved on the wings, and Oisin was dominating in the middle of the park. This almost reaped rewards for the hosts, as Asa was denied twice by the opposition goalkeeper, and Oisin also saw two efforts creep painfully wide of either post. Altogether though, it was a huge improvement from the first period, with every player in red and black enjoying themselves much more on the pitch, and looking much more comfortable with the ball at their feet.

The hosts kept this going into the final period, with Oisin and Rami at the heart of much of the attacking play, Asa and Dom providing pace on either flank and Alex and Josh proving to be solid in the centre of defence. Oisin crashed a powerful drive straight at the 'keeper from distance and Asa again found space on the left wing, but was again denied by the visitors stopper. The inclusion of Thomas in attack also caused problems in the Coventry Jaguar back line, but they managed to hold out in the April sunshine.

Of course, at this age the score doesn't matter. The kids clearly enjoyed themselves and learnt a lot about playing in a team today, and there is certainly a lot of potential for this team to do well.
